The mechanisms, drawn.

Seven things this project argues that are genuinely hard to carry in a sentence. Each figure shows a mechanism rather than naming one — where commitments flow, what changes between two options, and which arrow disappears when a piece is removed.

Figure 1 · what is actually wrong

Nobody is waiting. Tokyo is simply the only option with a known shape.

Depopulation is not a standoff between people watching each other. It is two ordinary things stacked: Tokyo is the default and everyone can picture it, while a town you have never lived in cannot be assessed from outside — whether there is work, whether it is declining, whether you would be the only one there. Choosing Tokyo is the rational move even for people who would rather not.

What coordination adds is not persuasion — it is specification. A town nobody can evaluate is not an option, however good it is; it is a guess. Committing people together is what makes a place describable in advance: who is coming, what the work pays, when it happens, and what occurs if it does not fill. Tokyo is still on the page. It just stops being the only thing anyone can picture.

Loneliness is a geometry problem.

The difficulty of moving somewhere small is not the place. It is that one person arriving into an established web has no edges on day one, and has to earn each of them slowly against people who already have theirs.

A cohort of twenty shares 190 links on day one — n(n−1)/2, none of which had to be earned from an established group. Seven are drawn here because twenty would be an unreadable hairball, which is itself the point. Nobody is the only new person. This is the good that cannot be bought individually, because it does not exist unless everyone arrives at once.

Relocation is a state, not a trait.

The addressable population is not "people who like the countryside." It is people whose life is already in motion — and that set empties and refills every year.

Only the bars crossing the line are reachable today — but the bars move. A campaign aimed at a demographic misses most of them; one that catches people at the hinge reaches a set that refills every year. Knowing when someone is matters more than knowing who they are.

Five negotiations that can each fail, or one decision.

Almost all the friction in relocating is assembly friction. Every platform in existence makes you source the parts yourself and hope the dates line up.

Five independent failure points collapse into one decision. Nothing about the countryside changed — only who does the assembly. The last line matters most: decide at month seven, not now is what removes the irreversibility fear that no subsidy can touch.

Each cohort builds the housing the next cohort moves into.

Renovation labour is the largest cost in the model and skilled trades are the scarcest input. Trained cohorts solve both — and then feed the next town.

The loop closes on itself. The circulating-labour layer stops depending on skilled people happening to appear and starts generating its own supply — which is the only self-feeding mechanism anywhere in the model.

Every ministry has heard that people would consider leaving Tokyo. Nobody has a ranked map of what specifically stops them — and policy is written against obstacles, not desires.

The dashed box is the honest part. Musubu cannot change a rule or fund a placement — it can only produce the evidence and hand it to someone who can. Naming that handoff is what makes the loop credible rather than magical.
Figure 7 · how a thing gets built, or doesn't

Everything on the map is one of these states.

A house, a bakery, a reopened kindergarten and a nine-month work cohort are the same object with different contents — which is why one interaction learned once works everywhere.

Lapsed is a state, not a deletion. A tile that failed keeps its number and stays on the map, because a map with no failures on it is an advertisement — and the argument this project makes about honesty has to survive contact with its own data model.
